Cannabis & Clubhouse - It's almost as good as a tradeshow

Online marketers around the globe have gone nuts over the past days, ever since the new social media app Clubhouse started kicking in with increasing force from early January. Even though there are only a few, 420 clubs exist on Clubhouse already.

Every user can create rooms for private or public talks with other users. Thousands of individuals can join one room at a single time, moderators invite others on the stage to join a discussion or put them back into the audience. A room’s name usually defines the topic and general vibe, moderators should take care to manage the room accordingly (e.g. a more professional room should be led professionally, while a laid back one does not need that much governance very often).

WHAT ARE CLUBS ON CLUBHOUSE?

Clubs unite Clubhouse users interested in one topic. There can be weekly gatherings organized by the club’s moderators. Other users can join a club, participate in the weekly rooms, or start their own rooms with fellow club members at any time. Since clubhouse does not allow for the search of individual rooms but of clubs, this function is an important tool to connect with others interested in the same topic. Find our list of the currently most important clubs on Clubhouse below:

1. CANNAPRENEUR CLUB

Anything related to cannabis with a slight focus on business and entrepreneurship. Most talks focus on the personal experiences of small business owners, sometimes more experienced club members share their insights.

2. CANNABIS SCIENCE & MEDICINE

The place to ask questions you cannot answer yourself by a simple google search. This club allows for interaction with scientists and doctors on a personal level. Some talks get very deep and serious quickly. Imagine you have been looking for help on a certain question for a long time, and now there is someone who can answer it properly for the first time - true knowledge factory.

3. CANNABIS THOUGHT LEADERS

Only those who provide valuable knowledge get accepted as speakers, anyone else can listen. Thus, cannabis thought leaders manage to organize deep talk by industry experts. Great to learn and get inspiration, if you are not an expert yet.

No one should be serving life in prison for cannabis, not the most active group but food for thought for anyone privileged enough to not have to experience police and legal harassment for cannabis. Former inmates share their experiences, sometimes legal experts give insights into their thoughts.

4. PEOPLE OF CANNABIS

Another club that focuses on expert talks - once a week professionals who are among the best in their field get to share their knowledge and insights. One of the highest followers to members ratio in cannabis clubhouse.

5. HOW TO GET INTO THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY

Great platform for newbies and experienced cannabis professionals. Those on the search for a career in weed will connect with inspiring individuals who know this situation just too well themselves. Industry insiders get the opportunity to connect with new potential business partners or to generate leads for their own business. It is very common for members of this group to initiate their own talks in order to ask questions.

6. THE SMOKING SECTION

Guess what, this club is for those who are about to light up. You’ll hear a lighter clicking at least one time per minute, most words come out of the speakers’ mouth together with a thick cloud of smoke. Funny conversations, laughter, some weirdos taking over rooms with their craziness - it’s just like an aftershow party at any show. If you are home alone in isolation, get some munchie food ready, join one of the talks going on and find some new friends to chat with within few seconds.

On air: Wednesday 4:20 PST, 7:20 EST, (Thursday 00:30 am GMT)

7. THE CANNABIS CHEF

Only a few hundred members so far but among them, there are some of the most experienced 420 chefs. Everyone who needs advice on how to infuse their food, or how to prepare a Michelin like culinary experience with weed, should join this club and ask any question possible. A perfect classroom for those interested to learn from the most passionate.

8. CURATING EXPERIENCES THROUGH CANNABIS

Artists, industry experts, and everyone passionate about cannabis and its culture are invited to join spontaneous talks. Some courage by members is needed - put some life into this club, open a chat and invite fellow members to join.

9. CANNABIS INDUSTRY NETWORKING

The show floor just opened up - get your digital business card and your individual pitch ready, it’s business time. Here you can connect with anyone active and experienced in cannabis. For anyone not experienced yet, better focus on listening here and raise your questions in a club focused on this goal. Cannabis industry networking is a club targeting decision-makers and upper management.

10. QUEER IN CANNABIS

Clubhouse comes much closer to a safe space than any other social network. Anyone who knows how stigmatization feels will experience a much more tolerant and supporting crowd than for example on Facebook or Twitter. Queer in Cannabis leverages this situation and allows queer professionals within the industry to connect in a laid back, very open and friendly environment.

WHAT IS CLUBHOUSE?

The general idea is nothing new, an online space for individuals to speak via a voice chat function. However, the easy set-up of new, topic-related rooms, and the option to create weekly ‘’clubs’’ (weekly shows open to any Clubhouse user), as well as a clear set of rules and responsibilities (no hate speech, users can get kicked off the app easily), has put new life into the old fashioned business model of competitor software such as TeamSpeak.

WHY SHOULD I USE CLUBHOUSE AS A CANNABIS PROFESSIONAL?

Among other groups, the cannabis industry has found common ground in this new social network at a rapid pace. Friday night, 15 January 2021, a few dozens of people participated in marijuana-related chats, by Wednesday the 20th there were several hundred individuals online in single chats every night.

While the app’s rules allow for a proper and healthy discussion among all participants, it is the app’s ability to connect diverse people from all over the world within seconds that makes this new platform stand apart. No other social network allows for meeting new leads on a personal level at such a rapid pace in 2021. The whole process comes close to only one other key characteristic of the cannabinoid industry - trade shows.

While the US and Canada have seen only smaller and much fewer exhibitions in 2020, Europe has not seen any. Thus, a big share of cannabis industry professionals, almost all of whom are used to meeting new leads on their international travels on a weekly or monthly basis, is desperate to get out there and connect with potential customers or business partners again. Clubhouse allows them to come as close to a tradeshow, as they have not been ever since MJBizCon 2019. Download the app (iPhone only for now), sign up, and join the stage to get back into making these vital connections. It will not take you longer than 30 minutes and you will find yourself back in serious talks about extraction processes, different methods to cultivate or consume the herb. Furthermore, individuals inexperienced in this industry will get the chance to establish the first network and to gain knowledge vital for later success in this rapidly growing market.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE CAREFUL WITH ON CLUBHOUSE?

At the heart of Clubhouse’s philosophy, there is a belief in fair and healthy conversations. Thus, Clubhouse does not allow for hate speech or insulting behaviors. All conversations get recorded and saved for at least some time. If users complain about another user’s behavior, this user will be kicked off the app soon. Furthermore, the user who added this individual to Clubhouse can be kicked off as well. Thus, better think twice about adding your sometimes kinda awkward friend here - aggressive behavior will be punished quickly. On a side note, as soon as you join the speakers’ floor, your microphone is unsilenced and all other visitors of this room will be able to hear what’s going on around you. Keep that in mind, if you want to avoid very awkward moments.
